Take a Look Behind the Curtain with These Insider Tips About Online Home Search

#7.     Realtor.com  or Rupert Murdoch?

You would think Realtor.com would be a site run by the Realtor association, right?  WRONG!  The Realtor association does NOT  control Realtor.com….   That’s right, years ago the National Association of Realtors sold off the rights to the Realtor.com domain name.  Mr. Rupert Murdoch’s Newscorp is the parent company of Realtor.com and they operate the site to generate profits…by selling ads to real estate agents and selling your contact info.

#6 .     Is My Info a Commodity?

Zillow  (and other well recognized national search sites) are publicly traded companies who generate  a significant portion of  revenue from selling your contact info when you register.

#5.     Is this Really All the Homes?

Not all local listings show up on the national sites.  Many of the national search sites receive the listings via a third party and several variables control whether or not a particular home will be on a national site or not.

#4.     What Do You Mean It’s SOLD Already?

Many of the homes that appear for sale on the national sites are actually homes that are already under contract.  In fact, in our current market on any given day  more than half of the homes in your search results may already be under contract!   In the Triangle area many homes that go under contract continue to be marketed to generate possible ‘back-up’ buyer interest.  It can be very frustrating in trying to sort out which ones are truly for sale versus the one’s that are already under contract.

#3.     Is the Info Accurate?

Accuracy of many sites is a challenge because of the data going through a third party.  This can lead to delays on the listings appearing on the site and the information being accurate.

#2.    Featured Agent or Stranger Agent?

The agent featured or pictured/highlighted on any particular listing is likely NOT the agent associated to that property.  Another way many of the national sites make money is to sell that space, so the agent pictured or the agent that would receive any request for info is an agent that has paid for advertising space and may not know anything about that particular home.

#1.    Why Can’t I Just Search in Peace?

You Can!  It’s one of the reasons we built TriangleJustListed.com….to give people like you a fast & easy site to search homes for sale in the Triangle thats accurate and where we will never treat you like a commodity.
